Social Impact Evaluation Training

A well-designed program can mean enhanced outcomes and greater impact. But achieving quality outcomes requires quality evaluation! This training will help get you there.
Delivering positive social change is a central pillar to the UTS 2027 strategy, reinforcing our vision to be an agent for social change. Shifting focus in the higher education sector is placing increasing currency in research and programs with demonstrable impact. Funding bodies also commonly require applicants to provide clear and detailed articulation of research or program impact.
Everyone has an edge when they are skilled at evaluating the social impact of their endeavours. This training is designed to develop this key skill for UTS staff – both academic and professional.
About the Training
This free one-day training has been developed to build your confidence and capacity in evaluating the social impact of your research and/or program. You will be introduced to key concepts and frameworks used in evaluation, and we will discuss the factors that have been driving the greater focus on social impact evaluation at UTS. This session aims to:
- Introduce you to the language of evaluation
- Build an understanding of the context and benefits of evaluation, including UTS frameworks and incentives
- Be able to develop a program logic and evaluation framework to evaluate the outcomes of your work
- Provide insight as to how your work feeds into broader UTS frameworks including UTS Social Impact Framework

About the presenter
Rachel Bertram is a social impact and evaluation specialist, based at the Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion. She works across the university delivering training and support for both professional and academic staff, building their capacity to plan, evaluate and report on their social impact. Rachel also manages the delivery of the Social Impact Toolbox – an initiative of UTS Business School, democratising access to evaluation resources for the Not for Profit sector. Rachel is an effective communicator helping people and organisations bring about positive social impact. She is the recipient of the Mark Lyons Award for excellence in NFP and Social Enterprise Management, and has received an Order of Australia Certificate of Commendation for her community service.
